What is Supervisory Skills Training? Supervisory Skills Training is a series of ten (10), four-hour sessions that are highly interactive and utilize a variety of instructional techniques including: lectures, work sessions, group discussions, role playing, video, self-assessments, and practical applications. Participants are encouraged to bring real life issues to each session to facilitate on-the-job application of the skills learned.

Supervisory Skills Training will enhance the skill set necessary to better understand their responsibility and authority to effectively manage their workforce.
Course Description: This program includes training in the following areas:
Leadership Skills for Supervisors Managers learn how to apply their responsibility and authority to effectively manage the workforce and eliminate the energy diverting issues. Effective leaders are able to influence (motivate) others to work towards achieving goals. The most successful leaders are those who are able to adapt their style to the unique demands of the situation. Additionally, this module covers effective delegation that enables managers and supervisors to focus their efforts on higher value added activities.
Effective Communication Skills By the end of this session, participants will have a thorough knowledge of different communication styles and techniques that create different communication perceptions. They will learn what types of approaches are necessary to communicate effectively in different types of situations. Using a 24-item inventory, participants will learn their preference for one of 4 communication styles, recognize the various facets of communication, and learn how to use their own style to enhance communication.
Conflict Resolution Participants will learn their personal approaches to stressful situations through assessment and understand how to address various levels of anger and stress. They will learn how anger and stress affect performance and learn new techniques to improve such situations. Finally, we introduce students to an effective conflict resolution model. This workshop helps employees through the conflict resolution process, and provides them with the skills to resolve most workplace conflicts on their own.
Motivation By the end of this session, participants will have learned how to evaluate and implement motivational theory and various techniques that can be used to foster a high performance environment. Participants will understand the team building process and be able to develop methods that can be used to create and manage cohesive work groups within their organization.
Time Management During this session, participants will become familiar with the planning, organization and time management skills that are necessary to set realistic goals that are aligned to business needs, develop effective action plans to achieve goals, and to manage time wisely. They will be instructed on the use of spreadsheet tools to help organize hard to manage projects and timelines.
Developing A Positive Corporate Culture and Change Management Participants will learn the importance of healthy employee relationships; what strategies motivate to improve morale; understand that employees are the company's number one asset; and to instill true sense of ownership. Students learn how to lead a change effort which results in faster acceptance and less resistance.
Legal Responsibilities and Workforce Diversity Participants will develop an understanding of the legal side of supervision and will acquire the knowledge to proficiently deal with a variety of employment and legal issues. Real-life episodes are discussed and the ramification of not complying with employment laws.
Performance Evaluations and Progressive Discipline By the end of this session, participants will have the comprehensive knowledge to assist them in improved evaluation and performance management of their subordinates. This session focuses on conducting fair and legal evaluations and providing effective performance feedback utilizing subjective criteria.
Introduction to Financial Management This session introduces attendees to some of the financial terms, tools and concepts that they may need in their new roles. Participants will learn the fundamentals of budgeting and how to quickly recognize and analyze budget to actual variances. Managers and supervisors will also learn the basics of, revenue and expense accounting and tracking, and accounting concepts such as capital expenditures vs. operating expenses, gross profit margin vs. net profit margin, net present value calculations, return on investment and so forth.
Leading a LEAN Enterprise This session is designed to give newly-promoted supervisors a general understanding of working knowledge of some of the latest manufacturing "buzzwords" such as Lean Enterprise, Lean Office, ISO 9000, ISO 14000 and Six Sigma. Participants will learn the basic concepts of these and other important business initiatives and how they may be applied to increase the competitive performance of the companies in which they currently work. This session is exceptionally important for supervisors from companies that currently have an ISO, Six Sigma or Lean initiative in place and want their supervisors to better understand why their company has undertaken that initiative and why it is important to their business. It is also well-suited for companies that are considering implementing Lean or Six Sigma.
