Wilkes-Barre, PA — The Northeastern Pennsylvania Industrial Resource Center (NEPIRC) recently launched a new website, Reshore2PA, to create Pennsylvania-based manufacturing supply chains and spur manufacturing sector growth across the Commonwealth.
For manufacturers interested in identifying in-state suppliers for product inputs and semi-finished goods that they currently source from outside of Pennsylvania or from overseas suppliers, the site will enable them to easily upload product data packets, supplier qualification criteria, product cost requirements and other specifications that potential Pennsylvania-based suppliers can review and evaluate.
For Pennsylvania manufacturers interested in growing their business by becoming a supplier to other manufacturers within the Commonwealth, the website will list supply chain opportunities such as those described above and will allow potential suppliers to upload their information in response to those opportunities with the help of regional partners.
Potential suppliers and manufacturers interested in creating a localized, PA-based supply chain will all have access to no-cost assistance from NEPIRC to post opportunities, reply to postings, evaluate responses and create buyer-supplier relationships. Such assistance could consist of technical assistance in using the site, help in evaluating potential supplier credentials, arranging plant tours and face-to-face meetings between suppliers and buyers, and so forth.
As an additional benefit, the website will list other domestic supply chain opportunities that Pennsylvania-based manufacturers should know about, such as those supported by Wal-Mart and other big box retailers.
“Successful manufacturers view their supply chain as a source of either competitive advantage or competitive weakness. We’re delighted to launch this initiative so that more PA-based manufacturers can create localized, responsive supply chains. Doing so will not only reduce their product lead times and transportation costs, but will also help create manufacturing jobs in Pennsylvania, which are key to our economy,” said Eric Joseph Esoda, NEPIRC President & CEO.
Reshore2PA is part of NEPIRC’s Reshoring Manufacturing Jobs initiative, which consists of services designed to create Pennsylvania-based supply chains for currently outsourced products. Through this initiative, NEPIRC can also help manufacturers compare the cost of sourcing items offshore, versus locally, through a no-cost Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) analysis. A TCO analysis helps a company to identify, calculate and compare all of the product costs, risks and strategic impacts of their sourcing decisions.
Reshore2PA is funded in part by a federal Make It In America Challenge Grant that is focused on creating jobs through the growth and retention of Pennsylvania’s manufacturing economy
